What are the possible complications of radiofrequency ablation for thyroid nodules?

Conmplications after ablation are uncommon when the procedure is performed by an experienced specialist under ultrasound guidance. Possible complications include:- Pain or discomfort at the treatment site (usually mild and temporary)- Swelling or bruising around the neck- Voice changes due to irritation or injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve (usually temporary)- Bleeding or hematoma- Burns or skin irritation (very rare with proper technique)- Injury to surrounding structures, such as the trachea or esophagus (extremely rare) Dr Sinclair has introduced protocols to monitor the voice during thyroid ablation that are now used by practitioners around the world.
